Watering

Providing water is one of the greatest acts of charity.

Providing water is one of the greatest acts of devotion and the most beautiful forms of charity, for it touches the very essence of life and the foundation of the survival of every living being. In moments of thirst, a sip of cool water is worth more than all the treasures of the world; therefore, its reward with God is immense and its impact on people's hearts is profound.

1. The best charity of all

When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "Which charity is best?" he replied, "Providing water." This prophetic preference stems from the fact that water is an indispensable necessity, and providing it is a way of reviving the soul and alleviating its suffering in its most vulnerable moments.

2. A reason for the forgiveness of major sins

Spiritual heritage stories are full of lessons about this virtue; God’s forgiveness of the man who gave water to a dog, and of the woman who gave water to a cat, proves that God’s mercy descends even for giving water to an animal, so what about the one who gives water to his needy human brother?

3. Ongoing charity with a lasting impact

Water projects (such as drilling wells or providing water coolers) are among the best forms of endowment because their benefits continue day and night. As long as there is a person, animal, or bird drinking from them, the reward continues to flow to the donor even after his death.

4. Cooling hearts and extinguishing sins

Just as water cools the body, giving charity extinguishes God's wrath and cools the heat of sins in the servant's scales. It is also a means of seeking healing for the sick, as giving charity (especially water) with the intention of healing is always recommended.
