Relieving distress

Whoever relieves a believer of a worldly hardship

Relieving distress is one of the greatest and most impactful acts of humanity, affecting both the individual and society. It represents the pinnacle of human solidarity when one person extends a helping hand to rescue their brother from a predicament that was suffocating them. It is a lifeline sent by God to the afflicted through His righteous servants.

1. The reward is commensurate with the deed (the anguish of the Day of Resurrection)

The greatest reward for relieving distress is the truthful prophetic promise: “Whoever relieves a believer of a worldly hardship, God will relieve him of a hardship on the Day of Resurrection.” Imagine that your simple effort in solving someone’s problem today will be the price of your salvation on the most difficult day humanity will ever face.

2. God's companionship and help

As long as a person strives to help their brother, God will provide the means to facilitate their affairs; for "God is ever ready to help His servant as long as the servant is helping their brother." Relieving the distress of others is, in reality, a means of attracting divine assistance to your own life, business, and family.

3. Restoring hope to life

Distress (whether from debt, imprisonment, illness, or injustice) makes a person feel like the world is closing in on them. Your intervention to alleviate it is:

  • Reviving a soul that was about to succumb to despair.
  • Restoration of a family that was on the verge of falling apart due to financial or emotional distress.
