Eid clothing

A declaration of joy and an application of the Prophet's Sunnah

The Eid clothing tradition serves as the culmination of charitable seasons, not merely a new garment, but a declaration of joy and an application of the Prophet's teachings on expressing happiness. Providing Eid clothing for children and the poor is an investment in their emotional well-being, which is as essential to them as food and drink.

1. Reviving the tradition of "joy" and expanding hearts

Eid is a day of celebration and joy, and it is a matter of good character and religious duty that this joy not be limited to the wealthy alone. By providing Eid clothing:

  • It contributes to the completion of the Eid ritual for the needy.
  • It prevents a child's heart from breaking when he sees his peers wearing new clothes while he does not have them.

2. Comforting others in its highest form

Poverty is painful, but its pain intensifies during seasons when people gather. Eid clothing is the "balm" that heals the wounds of need; it relieves the father and mother of the burden of being unable to make their children happy, and makes the family feel its dignity and value in society.

3. Protection from the "bitterness" of deprivation

Seeing children in their new Eid clothes instills in them a sense of belonging and love for goodness; the seed you plant in the heart of an orphan or a poor person with a "new garment" will grow into love for society and cohesion in the future, instead of hatred and resentment.

4. Double reward during blessed seasons

Giving charity during the holidays (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) has a special significance, as it is associated with a virtuous time and a noble purpose (bringing joy), and "the most beloved of deeds to God is bringing joy to a Muslim."
